Now you can remove the bride and groom from your life.
An anonymous Reddit user recalled the horror story that cost a friend nearly $3,000 from a dodgy trick a bride and groom played on their wedding RSVP.
Using pseudonyms to save the hapless lad humiliation, Jack, the original poster (OP) on the Reddit forum r/EntitledPeople, said proceedings began as normal. The couple who were to marry in the UK, Sophie and Jeff even let Jack bring his girlfriend with him despite not knowing her.
“A few months later Jack got an email saying ‘Thank you for RSVPing to our wedding and thank you for helping us have the wedding of our dreams,'” the user wrote.
“At the bottom of the email, Jack saw a link that said ‘click here for payment.’
Jack had just assumed this was some kind of honeymoon site and browsed to see a request for 2,000 British pounds, or roughly $2,700 US.
“He assumed this must be a trick by the so-called wedding venue to let them know. The venue then told him that ‘Sophie and Jeff thank you for your contribution to enable them to have their wedding of dreams’.
The online storyteller pointed out that this only came to light after Jack got the yes answer — he also realized that his girlfriend’s invitation was probably an ulterior motive — and still cared enough “to empty all his savings to get part of the wedding”.
Still trying to keep a positive attitude, Jack thought he’d try to cut his losses by stocking up on free food and an open bar.
“Before the wedding, drinks were not included,” said the Reddit user, noting that Jack and his girlfriend spent about $40 on drinks.
But that was the least of it that came on the night of the wedding – Jack was also hit with a surprise fee of nearly $270 as well.
“He was then informed by the venue that the bride and groom had requested that each guest be charged this amount as a venue tip,” the user wrote.
“Jack had no money left from flushing his wedding savings so he had to negotiate a lower tip amount with the venue.”
Later Jack looked at the cost of the venue and realized that Sophie and Jeff had completely left the cost of their wedding to their boyfriends without paying a dime.
“I never heard of anything so fair in my life.”
And, the online community quickly took issue with the wedding as well.
“As soon as I saw the payment screen I would have called and canceled my RSVP,” one person commented.
“I would never, ever empty my life savings for a cheating couple like that. Damn,” added another.
